Last week we discussed some of the simple and inexpensive ways you can utilize to rejuvenate your dining room in time for the holidays. Now we’re going to talk about some of the more labor-intensive and significant updates you can do to your dining room to make it feel fresh and welcoming.
Something More Significant
If you’re looking for a more significant change, there are a few options to consider. This will obviously cost some more money than a quick fix, but if the dining room is feeling dated and you’ve been looking for an excuse to update it anyway, now is the time.
Lighting
The best way to update a room without breaking the budget is to bring in new lighting. Particularly in older homes, lighting is often dated and dim. This can do little for the room’s overall design and keep it from feeling bright and welcoming. You can also add a mirror to help reflect the new light fixture and make the room even brighter, creating a space that feels dynamic and enjoyable to spend time in.
Paint the Walls
A major change that will take a little more time is painting the walls. This requires a lot of effort, but it can be worth it if you’ve tried everything else and you’re still just not feeling the space. Updating the color of your walls, especially if they’re dark or dirty, can make a huge difference in the room and be just what you need to love it again (and impress your guests).
Remodel
A full remodel might be what you’re looking for, but this isn’t recommended at the start of the holiday season. A remodeling project takes a lot of time to complete, and working on a rushed schedule will inevitably lead to problems and could result in your dining room not being guest-ready in time for Thanksgiving. Instead, it’s better to make the small changes first and then decide if you want to do a remodel. If you do, wait until after the holiday season, so your home isn’t in disarray during these stressful months.
